An eight lane cable-stayed bridge that was opened in July 2005, connecting Charleston and Mount Pleasant over the Cooper River. Arthur Ravenel Jr., a Charleston politician lead the campaign to have the new bridge replace the obsolete Grace and Pearman Bridges. On the north-bound side, there is a pedestrian and bike lane that is utilized year round. The Ravenel is world-famous for the annual Cooper River Bridge Run.
